Rotary International Commits $3 Billion to Eradicate Polio

On Wednesday, John Hewko, the Chief Executive Officer of Rotary International, announced the organization's commitment of over $3 billion to the global fight against polio. This announcement was made during a media briefing in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria, ahead of a three-day conference for District 9141.

Hewko highlighted the achievements in vaccination efforts in collaboration with partners in polio eradication, noting that polio remains a challenge primarily in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He expressed concerns regarding misinformation, cultural issues, and insecurity that hinder vaccination efforts globally.

Hewko reiterated the necessity of vaccinations, stating that every child must receive two drops of the polio vaccine. He acknowledged that misinformation poses a significant problem, particularly in regions where cultural challenges persist.

The Rotary Governor for District 9141, Anthony Woghiren, was also present, emphasizing the organization's humanitarian efforts to empower less privileged communities through skill acquisition.
