Rotary International's Babalola Reaffirms Polio Commitment

Olayinka Babalola, the President-Elect of Rotary International, pledged a renewed commitment to the global fight against polio during an address to Rotarians ahead of his formal assumption of office. He acknowledged financial constraints affecting global health interventions but stressed that these would not derail ongoing efforts to eliminate the disease.

Babalola highlighted the importance of innovative immunization delivery methods, particularly in hard-to-reach areas such as Afghanistan, where health workers are deploying needle-free jet injectors to vaccinate children in communities resistant to traditional immunization programs. He cautioned against complacency in the final stages of eradication efforts, emphasizing that Rotary must remain steadfast in its mission to protect every child.

Babalola also called for a focus on creating sustainable impacts in communities and urged Rotarians to think beyond immediate outcomes to ensure lasting change.
