RULAAC Demands Police Action Against Vigilante Leader

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has expressed serious concerns regarding allegations of human rights violations committed by Mr. Chibuik Duru, a self-styled vigilante leader in Egwedu Autonomous Community, Njaba Local Government Area, Imo State.

Reports indicate that Duru operates an illegal detention facility, extorting residents, particularly market women, and subjecting them to arbitrary arrests and detention. Allegations include demands for payment for the release of detainees and even for delivering food to them.

RULAAC has noted at least two deaths linked to Duru's operations and has sought verification from credible media sources. The organization has submitted a formal petition to the Nigeria Police Force and the National Human Rights Commission, calling for the immediate arrest, investigation, and prosecution of Duru and others involved.

Okechukwu Nwanguma, the Executive Director of RULAAC, emphasized that no individual or group is above the law and urged the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, to restore law and order in the community.
