U.S. Court Sentences Osun Monarch Oba Oloyed to Prison

The ruling houses of Ipetumodu in Osun State have successfully obtained a certified true copy of a judgment from the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, sentencing Oba Joseph Oloyed to five years in prison for fraud.

The judgment, delivered on August 26, 2025, found the 62-year-old dual citizen of Nigeria and the United States guilty of exploiting the COVID-19 emergency loan program, resulting in a 56-month prison term and three years of supervised release. Additionally, he is required to pay restitution of $4,408,543.38 and forfeit his home in Medina, Ohio, purchased with proceeds from the fraudulent scheme.

Osun State's Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dosu Babatunde, stated that the government will not act based on social media reports regarding the monarch's conviction. The ruling houses, represented by Prince Taiwo Ayoola, are now discussing the next steps with Governor Ademola Adeleke, including a proposal to shelve protests regarding the vacant stool of Ipetumodu.
