South Africa Unveils Squad for Commonwealth Fencing Championships

The Fencing Federation of South Africa has named a formidable 36-member squad for the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships set to take place in Lagos. This squad underscores South Africa's reputation as a powerhouse in African fencing.

Sergei Losevskii, who previously fenced for Russia, will lead the men's team, bringing valuable experience from his tenure at the Johannesburg Blue Fencing Club. Alexandra Lancast, a silver medalist at the African Senior Championship and the first South African woman to advance beyond the pool round at the Senior World Championship, will captain the women's squad.

Louis Lombard, president of the Fencing Federation of South Africa, noted that the team represents a blend of promise and maturity, with many young athletes making their international debut. The squad includes six fencers competing in veteran events and eleven in senior categories, split into six men and five women.

South Africa will also field eight athletes in the U23 division, aiming to build on recent successes in junior competitions.
