Kola Adesina Joins Mission 300 Council for Electrification

Kola Adesina, the Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Group, has been appointed to the Mission 300 Private Sector Council, an initiative focused on increasing electricity access for 300 million Africans by 2030. This council is convened by the World Bank Group, the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the Rockefeller Foundation, bringing together senior business leaders to mobilize investments and shape policies for Africa's electrification drive.

Adesina's appointment highlights the growing role of private capital in addressing Africa's economic constraints, particularly the lack of reliable power affecting approximately half of the continent's population. In his statement, Adesina emphasized the importance of collaboration and sustainable private investment to deliver electricity at scale.

The council aims to prioritize projects that develop regulatory frameworks and innovative financing structures to accelerate access, especially in underserved off-grid communities. Makhtar Diop, Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), is expected to play a central role in mobilizing private investment for large-scale energy projects across the continent.
