Sahara Power Group Pushes for Digital Grid in Nigeria

Dr. Kola Adesina, the Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, presented a compelling case for adopting a digital grid to achieve reliable power supply in Nigeria during the IoT West Africa Conference in Lagos.

He highlighted that despite Nigeria's significant generation capacity, persistent supply gaps exist due to limitations in grid visibility and insufficient real-time data. The introduction of a digital grid would enable real-time awareness, automated predictions, and intelligent electric network management through deployed sensors.

Adesina cited practical examples, such as Abia State's smart grid, which can automatically disconnect from the national system to ensure continuous supply during instability. He noted improvements in South Africa's grid operations and Mozambique's reduction of electricity loss through smart technologies.

Adesina urged immediate digitization of critical assets in the electricity sector and called for young Nigerian engineers to develop technological solutions. He emphasized that reliable electricity is achievable with the right partnerships and innovations.
