Sanwo-Olu Appoints New Chancellor for Lagos State University

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has appointed Oba Dr. Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo as the 6th Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU).

This appointment was announced in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the university's registrar, Emmanuel Fanu. Oba Ogunsanwo, who is the Alara of Ilara, will serve a single five-year term commencing on Friday, February 13, 2026.

He succeeds Professor Gbolahan Elia, who served as the 5th Chancellor of LASU for a tenure of five years. The appointment aligns with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law of 2004, which empowers the visitor of the university to appoint its chancellor.

The pro-chancellor and vice-chancellor of the university have expressed their congratulations to the new chancellor and confidence in his leadership to significantly advance the university's vision and mission.
