FG Appoints Adejor Bello as New OAU Pro-Chancellor

The Federal Government of Nigeria has appointed Adejor Bello as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), as announced on Friday. Bello, a former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, is expected to bring a rich blend of legislative experience and diplomatic exposure to the position.

He has previously served as Nigeria's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mexico, with concurrent accreditation to Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama since June 2021. Bello holds a degree in law and has a strong connection to the university, which positions him uniquely to understand its heritage and aspirations.

The statement from the university expressed confidence in Bello's ability to provide visionary leadership and work harmoniously with council members, staff, students, and alumni to advance the university's mission. He replaces the late Prof.

Siyan Oyeweso, who passed away in December 2025 at the age of 64.
