Sanwo-Olu Praises Dangote Refinery's Impact on Africa

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State commended the Dangote Refinery as a significant industrial achievement, illustrating Africa's capability to undertake large-scale projects. Speaking at the Africa–Diaspora Leadership Programme 2026 Young Global Leaders Convening on October 3, 2023, at the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical Complex in Ibeju-Lekki, he noted that the refinery was constructed on reclaimed land and required additional infrastructure, including a jetty and power plant.

Sanwo-Olu warned against relying on individual efforts for Africa's development, stating that the success of the refinery should lead to easier future projects. He mentioned ongoing infrastructure developments like the Lekki Deep Sea Port and Lagos Blue Line rail as part of his administration's strategy to attract investors.

Sanwo-Olu called for greater involvement of African pension funds and sovereign wealth funds in strategic asset ownership, asserting that Africa's growth depends on collective collaboration rather than individual heroism.
