Sanwo-Olu Orders Cleanup as Refuse Piles Up in Lagos

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered an immediate cleanup operation across the state as refuse accumulation has raised significant concerns among residents. A statement issued on Thursday by the governor's special adviser on media, Gboyega Akosile, acknowledged these concerns and assured Lagosians that efforts are underway to address the situation.

The governor emphasized that the issue has received the highest level of attention and directed relevant agencies, including the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), to intensify waste evacuation activities. The statement noted that Lagos generates approximately 13,000 tons of waste daily, presenting operational challenges.

The governor reassured residents that the current situation is temporary and that substantial progress has already been recorded in several locations. Sanwo-Olu's administration is committed to investing heavily in sustainable waste management infrastructure and urban renewal projects to ensure a cleaner and safer Lagos.
