Sanwo-Olu Orders Drainage Interventions in Lekki Floods

On Wednesday, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu visited flood-ravaged areas in Lekki, specifically the Ibeju Lekki corridor, to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rainfall and human activities obstructing natural waterways. Accompanied by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Secretary to the State Government Abimbola Salu Hundeyin, Sanwo-Olu inspected major drainage channels and tributaries affected by the flooding.

He noted that the volume of rainfall experienced over the past three to four weeks was unusually high and exacerbated by human encroachment on natural drainage systems. The governor stressed the importance of preserving waterways and maintaining drainage channels to mitigate flood risks.

He disclosed plans for the state government to intensify dredging and excavation projects to improve water flow. Sanwo-Olu expressed sympathy for residents whose properties were damaged and assured them of government support.

He warned residents in flood-prone areas to heed weather advisories and consider relocating to safer grounds.
