Lagos Prepares for 2026 CAF Awards, Sanwo-Olu Assures

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced that Lagos is prepared to host the 2026 CAF Awards following an inspection by a five-man team from the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The inspection took place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, also known as the National Theatre.

The CAF delegation, led by Dr Christian Emeruwa, included members focusing on various aspects such as technology, travel, accommodation, transport, and branding. They were welcomed by officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission, including Director-General Lekan Fatodu.

Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of meticulous planning for the event, stating that every detail matters. The CAF Awards will take place in Lagos, while the CAF General Assembly is scheduled for November 21, 2026, in Abuja.

Nigeria has previously hosted the CAF Awards four times, with the last event held in January 2015. The CAF team also inspected facilities at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and other venues in Abuja.
