Saraki Advocates for Strategic Partnerships in Italy

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the former President of the Nigerian Senate, arrived at Lake Como, Italy, to join global leaders, policymakers, and scholars for a workshop organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.

The workshop, running from June 29 to July 1, 2023, focuses on the theme of moving Africa beyond aid dependency towards embracing strategic partnerships centered on trade, investment, and industrialization. Saraki's participation includes addressing a panel on the African perspective on development policies, particularly in light of the changing global order and the diminishing role of U.S. leadership.

He emphasized the need for Africa to be treated as an equal partner rather than a recipient of aid. The workshop will also feature discussions on various strategic priorities for the U.S. and its allies, with participation from countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Nigeria.
