Saudi Arabia Opens Premium Residency Path for Nigerians With Multiple Entry Routes

Saudi Arabia has formally established a premium residency programme designed to attract foreign nationals, including Nigerians, through multiple financial and professional qualification routes. The kingdom's government published details of the scheme on its official channels, outlining distinct entry points based on applicants' financial capacity and professional standing.

The initiative forms part of a wider strategy to draw skilled workers to the country without traditional employer sponsorship constraints. The programme offers three distinct pathways with different cost structures.

Foreigners seeking a five-year premium residency permit must demonstrate a financial commitment of 100,000 SAR, roughly ₦35.95 million at current rates. Those pursuing unlimited-duration residency face a substantially higher barrier of 800,000 SAR, equivalent to approximately ₦287.5 million.

A third route targets investors: foreign nationals holding valid investment licences with a minimum ownership stake of 7 million SAR—about ₦2.5 billion—also qualify for the status. Scientific professionals represent a fourth category with distinct requirements.

Saudi Arabia has set a monthly salary threshold of 35,000 SAR, or approximately ₦12.5 million monthly, for foreign scientists and technical specialists seeking premium residency eligibility. This pathway does not depend on employer sponsorship, allowing qualified professionals in these fields to apply independently based on their earnings.

Premium residency holders access nine documented benefits. These include the ability to bring family members—spouses, parents, and children under 25—within their permit coverage.

Holders gain freedom to change employers without restriction, exemption from expatriate levies, unrestricted domestic and international travel privileges, and permission to purchase real estate within the kingdom. The Saudi government framed the programme as creating a settlement environment for individuals capable of meeting the financial benchmarks, removing traditional employment sponsorship dependencies that have historically governed foreign residency in the kingdom.
