Saudi Arabia Opens Gifted Residency Programme for Foreign Talent
Saudi Arabia now permits skilled foreigners in sports, culture and the arts to obtain five-year residence permits and bring select family members to the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia has launched a dedicated residency pathway for foreign nationals with demonstrated expertise in sports, cultural and artistic fields. The Gifted Residency scheme, also referred to as Mawhiba Residency, offers a five-year permit and represents part of the kingdom's broader effort to attract global talent to support its development objectives.
Applicants must demonstrate exceptional skill in their respective disciplines and obtain endorsement from relevant government ministries. The programme establishes a one-time application fee of 4,000 Saudi Riyals, equivalent to approximately ₦560,000.
All applicants, regardless of which eligibility pathway they pursue, must satisfy core requirements including proof of financial solvency. The Saudi government has published detailed criteria through its Premium Residency Centre to guide potential applicants through the process.
Family members of approved applicants gain eligibility to relocate alongside the principal resident. Spouses, parents, and children under 25 years of age may accompany talented foreigners approved for the scheme.
This family inclusion provision distinguishes the Gifted Residency from other residency categories and reflects the programme's design to facilitate long-term settlement rather than temporary work arrangements. For Nigerian professionals working or seeking opportunities in sports, entertainment and creative industries, the scheme presents a structured alternative to conventional work visa pathways.
The kingdom has also introduced a separate Premium Residency programme requiring only proof of financial capacity, available in both fixed-term and permanent options for foreigners wishing to settle without demonstrating particular professional talent. Details on both programmes remain accessible through Saudi Arabia's official residency portal.
