Major Security Operation in Zamfara Kills Scores of Bandits

A significant security operation in Zamfara State resulted in the deaths of approximately 80 to 100 bandits, including Kachalla Iliya Sarki, the son of notorious bandit leader Ado Aleiro. The operation, which took place from Saturday to Sunday morning on April 5, 2026, involved around 400 bandits who attempted a large-scale attack on Kunchin Kalgo Village.

Security forces, alongside hired vigilantes from Borno State, successfully repelled the assault, bringing some relief to the local communities. However, concerns persist regarding ongoing abductions in the state.

Isah Sunusi, the country director for Amnesty International, criticized the government's inadequate response to the violence, highlighting the failure to prioritize the safety of citizens amid the ongoing crisis. The situation in Zamfara reflects broader issues of insecurity affecting various regions in Nigeria, including Plateau, Benue, Sokoto, and Katsina.
