SDP Urges INEC for Credible 2027 Elections in Nigeria

The Social Democratic Party (SDP), under the leadership of Prof. Sadiq Gomb, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prioritize transparency and credibility in the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During a meeting of the party's National Executive Committee (NEC), Gomb emphasized the importance of fully implementing the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 to guarantee free and fair elections. He noted that political parties and stakeholders have expressed concerns regarding certain aspects of the electoral act, highlighting the need for reforms to bolster public confidence in Nigeria's democratic processes.

Gomb reaffirmed SDP's readiness to actively participate in the elections, recalling the party's historical role in Nigeria's democratic journey. Former presidential candidate Princ Adewol Adebayo also stressed the necessity of reforming Nigeria's electoral laws to enhance voter participation and ensure credible elections.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to uphold democratic ideals and improve governance in Nigeria.
