Beccacece Resigns as Ecuador Coach After World Cup Exit

Sebastian Beccacece has stepped down as the coach of the Ecuador National Football Team after their elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Ecuador was defeated 2-0 by co-host Mexico in the Round of 32.

Beccacece, who took charge of the team in August 2024, led Ecuador to their second-ever appearance in the World Cup knockout stage. The team faced a challenging group, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Ivory Coast and securing a 0-0 draw against Curacao.

Ecuador managed a surprising 2-1 comeback victory against Germany, qualifying as one of the best third-place teams. However, their impressive run ended with the loss to Mexico, where they failed to score despite a strong first-half performance.

Beccacece, aged 44, became the seventh coach to leave his position during the tournament, joining other notable coaches such as Marcelo Bielsa and Ronald Koeman.
