SEC DG Advocates for Stakeholder Collaboration in Capital Market

Dr. Emomotimi Agama, the Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria, emphasized the need for stakeholder collaboration to advance the capital market during his keynote address at the Emerging Africa Capital Limit Investor Summit.

He highlighted the importance of a collective approach to fully explore investment opportunities and sustain the country's economic development. Agama noted that recent regulatory reforms aim to transform the capital market, which currently has a capital-to-GDP ratio below that of Nigeria's peer economies.

He advocated for domestic corporate issuers to embrace the capital market as a primary pathway for growth and urged pension funds and insurance companies to deepen their engagement in domestic capital market instruments. Agama reassured foreign investors of a transparent regulatory environment aligned with international best practices and called for inter-agency collaboration among the SEC, CBN, DMO, NAICOM, and PENCOM to create a unified, investor-friendly capital market.
