AIG Nwonyi Advocates for Collaboration with Traditional Rulers

On Thursday, during his official one-day working visit to Abakaliki, Polycarp Nwonyi, the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia, called for enhanced collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and traditional rulers in Ebonyi. Nwonyi stated that traditional rulers are vital partners in maintaining peace, social cohesion, and community stability.

He acknowledged their unique knowledge and relationships that contribute to effective security, which cannot be matched by formal structures. The AIG expressed his commitment to strengthening the relationship between the police and traditional institutions, emphasizing that security cannot be achieved by the police alone.

He urged traditional rulers and community leaders to encourage residents to provide timely and actionable information to the police. Hope Okafor, the Ebonyi Commissioner of Police, commended Nwonyi's visit and reiterated the command's dedication to securing the environment and its people.
