Sen Lamido Declines Re-Election Bid Amid Security Concerns

Sen Lamido explained his decision not to seek re-election during an interview with BBC Hausa, stating that his choice was driven by a desire to directly address the worsening security situation in Sokoto East. He emphasized that the governor possesses the power and resources necessary to confront the security challenges facing the area.

Although he expressed a wish to contest for the governorship, he acknowledged that insecurity affects the people. Lamido lost the governorship ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Mannir Dan Iya, through a party consensus arrangement.

Despite this setback, he pledged his loyalty to the ADC and promised to work towards the party's success in the 2027 general elections. Lamido disclosed that ten aspirants were considered for the party's governorship ticket, with nine accepting the outcome of the consensus process in the interest of party unity.
