Sokoto Senator Ibrahim Lamido Leaves APC Over Insecurity

Ibrahim Lamido, the Senator for Sokoto East, has declared his intention to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the deteriorating security situation in his constituency as the primary reason for his departure. Speaking to journalists in Sokoto on Friday, Lamido expressed deep concern over the ongoing banditry and violence that has plagued several communities within the district.

He noted that the persistent attacks by armed groups have forced residents to abandon their homes in search of safety, severely disrupting economic activities, particularly farming, which is a primary source of livelihood for families in the region. Lamido emphasized that the current political system fails to demonstrate sufficient commitment to resolving the crisis, leading him to consult traditional leaders and political stakeholders before making his decision.

He urged the federal government to intensify efforts to combat banditry across the northwest, warning that continued attacks would exacerbate the humanitarian challenges already faced by communities in Sokoto East, including local government areas such as Sabon Birni, Isa, and Rabah.
