Senate Demands Federal Action on Oyo State Abductions

The Nigerian Senate has raised concerns regarding the alarming rate of abductions in schools and communities, particularly in Oyo State, where recent attacks have led to the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers. During a session, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari of the APC representing Oyo North highlighted the urgent need for federal intervention to rescue the victims abducted by gunmen on May 15.

The Senate directed security agencies to deploy necessary resources to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals. The motion, which received unanimous support, also called for the strengthening of safe school initiatives and improved surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Senator Adam Oshiomhole of Edo North urged stricter oversight of security spending to ensure effective use of funds. The Senate acknowledged the recent visit of a federal government delegation led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila to affected communities.

The discussion underscored the need for stronger government action to address the ongoing insecurity, particularly in Kwara North, where similar attacks have occurred.
