Senate Condemns Makinde's UN Probe Call on Oyo Abduction

The Nigerian Senate condemned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for his call for a United Nations investigation into the abduction of pupils and a teacher in the Oriire Local Government Area. The Senate described Makinde's appeal as trivializing a grave national security issue and insisted that the matter does not fall under international jurisdiction.

Instead, the Senate commended President Bola Tinubu and the nation's security agencies for their successful rescue operation. The upper chamber praised the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, Chief of Air Staff, and the Inspector General of Police for their roles in the operation.

The Senate also observed a minute of silence in honor of fallen security personnel, including Lieutenant Isaac N and Sergeant Abena John, who were killed during the rescue. Additionally, the Senate called for sustained investment in the welfare, training, and equipment of the armed forces and security agencies, urging the federal government to ensure prompt payment of benefits to the families of those lost during operations.
