Makinde Calls for UN Probe into Oyo Abduction Incident

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has requested a United Nations investigation into the abduction of pupils and a teacher from Ahoro Esinl School in Oriire Local Government Area. In a video shared on Monday, Makinde stated that the circumstances surrounding the abduction, which occurred on May 15, 2026, warrant scrutiny beyond Nigeria's domestic institutions.

He emphasized the need for full transparency and accountability, asserting that the Nigerian people deserve to know what happened and that those responsible must be held accountable. Makinde clarified that his call for international scrutiny is not intended to undermine Nigerian institutions but to reinforce public confidence in the truth.

He reminded the federal government of its constitutional responsibility for national security and insisted that measures must be taken to prevent such incidents from occurring again. The governor also confirmed that the victims were rescued after spending 50 days in captivity and were receiving medical treatment and psychosocial support in Ibadan.
