Senate Confirms Lamido Yuguda as CBN Deputy Governor

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate confirmed Lamido Yuguda as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. The confirmation followed a report from the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Financial Institutions, chaired by Adetokunbo Abiru, who noted that Yuguda qualified for the position based on his extensive experience.

The committee found no petitions against him, urging the Senate to confirm his nomination. The motion for confirmation was seconded by Danjuma Goje, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio describing Yuguda as a "square peg in a square hole," commending President Bola Tinubu for his choice.

The Senate's approval came amid ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership of the Central Bank and deepen confidence in Nigeria's monetary policy framework. Yuguda's prior engagements included significant roles such as Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and he has been screened multiple times for various positions within the apex bank.
