CBN Implements Management Shake-Up with Deputy Redeployments

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) executed a management shake-up on June 1, 2026, redeploying four deputy governors to enhance leadership structure and operational efficiency. Dr.

Muhammad Abdullahi has been reassigned to oversee economic policy, while Mr. Philip Ikeazor takes over as the director of corporate services.

Ms. Emem Usoro has been moved to the operational director role, and Mr.

Lamido Yuguda has been transferred to manage financial system stability. This restructuring aims to strengthen coordination across strategic departments and align leadership with the evolving priorities of the bank.

Although the CBN did not specify the reasons for these changes, they are expected to bolster regulatory oversight and improve institutional effectiveness. This redeployment coincides with ongoing efforts to reinforce confidence in the financial system and enhance policy implementation.

Earlier in March 2026, President Bola Tinubu nominated Mr. Lamido Yuguda as deputy governor of the CBN, following the appointment of Bala Bello as a special advisor on political economy.
