Senate Orders NNPCL Executives for N210trn Audit Probe

On April 29, 2026, the Nigerian Senate has mandated Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), to present Mele Kyari, the former CEO, along with other former executives, for a probe concerning a N210 trillion audit query spanning from 2017 to 2023. This decision follows a motion by Senator Osita Izunaso and was seconded by Senator Adam Oshiomhole, amid growing concerns over unsatisfactory responses from NNPCL regarding multiple audit queries.

Senate Committee Chairman Aliyu Wadada emphasized that the Senate will no longer accept vague explanations related to the substantial sums in question, particularly the N103 trillion classified as liabilities. The committee has raised 19 separate queries, with responses deemed inadequate.

A two-week compliance window has been granted, and failure to appear will invoke the Senate's constitutional power to compel attendance. This marks a significant shift towards stricter oversight of NNPCL's financial records.
