Senate Approves N403.1 Billion for Police Trust Fund

On June 9, 2026, the Senate approved a total budget of N403.1 billion for the Nigerian Police Trust Fund for the fiscal years 2025 and 2026. The budget breakdown for 2026 includes N43.78 billion for capital expenditures and N179.1 billion for personnel costs and overheads. The funding sources are outlined as 0.5% of total revenue from the federal account, 0.5% of total VAT, and contributions from companies.

The Senate's committee on police affairs, represented by Vice Chairman Yunus Akintunde, emphasized the importance of this budget in procuring operational vehicles, rehabilitating police barracks, and training personnel. Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed optimism that the approved budget would significantly improve the provision of critical equipment and resources needed to bolster security operations in Nigeria.
