Senate Approves N2.2 Trillion FCT 2026 Budget

On Wednesday, the Nigerian Senate passed the Federal Capital Territory's (FCT) N2.2 trillion 2026 budget during a second reading, following extensive debate. The Senate leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, emphasized that the budget reflects the FCT administration's plans to accelerate infrastructure development and improve service delivery across Abuja and its satellite towns.

The budget allocates N165.775 billion for personnel costs, N378.231 billion for overhead expenditures, and N1.657 trillion for capital projects, which represents the largest share of the budget. Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau noted that the significant allocation for capital projects demonstrates a strong commitment to infrastructure expansion in the nation's capital.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio commended the leadership of the ruling party and highlighted the appointment of Nyesom Wike as the right person for the job, noting ongoing infrastructure development across the FCT. The Senate has referred the bill to the committee for further legislative scrutiny, with a report expected back in a week.
