Senate Increases PCC Budget to N109 Billion for 2026

On Tuesday, the Nigerian Senate raised the Public Complaint Commission's (PCC) 2026 budget from N29,460,000,000 to N109,017,602,162. The Senate's Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions recommended this increase, citing insufficient funds for staff salaries and operational costs.

The PCC's allocation under the 2025 Appropriation Act was N14,460,000,000, which the committee deemed inadequate. The commission plans to utilize nearly the entire allocation for personnel costs, amounting to N28,393,588,773, leaving a minimal balance for overhead costs.

The chairman of the committee, Neda Imasuen from Edo South, presented the budget report, emphasizing the need for additional funds to cover rising operational costs, including electricity tariffs and fuel. The PCC also requested an extra N30,261,835,401 for overhead costs and N50,362,177,988 for capital costs, which include constructing offices and purchasing vehicles.
