Senate To Investigate Rising Flight Crew–Passenger Clashes

The Senate Committee on Aviation has announced plans to investigate the recent rise in clashes between flight crew members and passengers in Nigeria. This decision comes after two controversial incidents at the Abuja and Lagos airports, which sparked a nationwide debate.

The first incident involved iconic fuji musician KWAM 1 blocking an aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, while the second incident saw a passenger named Comfort Emmanson being forcefully removed from an Ibom Air flight for reportedly refusing to switch off her phone and assaulting a female crew member. Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, emphasized the need for urgent action to address these dangerous incidents and restore public confidence in the aviation sector.

The committee aims to engage with regulatory bodies, operators, security agencies, and public interest groups to review existing procedures and ensure necessary corrective measures are swiftly implemented to uphold safety and professionalism in the aviation system.
