Akpabio Calls for Urgent Action on Abductions and Security

The Nigerian Senate, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, convened following its annual recess and addressed the urgent issue of abductions in Marisa, Dekera Mosque, and other areas. Akpabio stated that the Senate cannot consider itself free while citizens remain in captivity, urging security agencies to pursue the rescue of abducted individuals and protect vulnerable communities.

He committed to leveraging the Senate's legislative, appropriation, and oversight powers to support security institutions. Akpabio also highlighted the recent flooding disasters that affected homes and agriculture, calling for expedited emergency responses to prevent food shortages.

He acknowledged the economic hardships faced by Nigerians, urging lawmakers to align policy discussions with the struggles of citizens, including small business owners and unemployed graduates. As political activities ramp up ahead of the 2027 general elections, Akpabio cautioned against divisive rhetoric and violence, emphasizing the need for unity among political actors.
