NSCIA, Senators Demand Action After Niger Terror Attack

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and the Northern Senators Forum condemned a terrorist attack that occurred on August 21, 2026, in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The attack affected communities including Gbeji, Kpenya, Giyan Gbasu, and Dekara, resulting in the deaths of approximately 30 residents, injuries to several others, and the abduction of over 60 worshippers during Jumu’at prayers at a mosque in Dekara.

The NSCIA, represented by its Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh, described the incident as a heinous assault on innocent Nigerians and the sanctity of worship. The council called for an immediate and comprehensive review of security arrangements in Niger State and surrounding areas, urging the Federal Government to implement a permanent, intelligence-driven security architecture.

It also emphasized the need for intensified aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering to prevent future attacks, recalling a previous rescue operation on August 5, where 308 abducted individuals were freed from the Kainji Lake National Park forest.
