Senator Nenadi Usman Takes Over as Labour Party Chair Amidst Internal Disputes

Senator Nenadi Usman has taken over as the new Chair of the Labour Party (LP) following a court judgment upholding her leadership. This move comes after a prolonged leadership dispute within the party, with the previous Chairman, Julius Abur, facing challenges from Usman's faction.

The LP has experienced internal divisions, losing lawmakers and facing defections, including the departure of Peter Obi to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The LP is set to hold its presidential primary on February 21 in Abuja.

The recent court ruling by Justice Peter Lifu has further complicated matters, as it refused to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept the LP's list of candidates for the upcoming election. Additionally, Senator Ireti Kingibe and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike have been involved in party disputes and defections, adding to the turmoil within the LP.
