Court Dismisses Nwoko's Suit Against Okowa's Candidacy

On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja ruled against Ned Nwoko's suit that sought to nullify the emergence of Ifeanyi Okowa as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Delta North senatorial district. Justice Moham Umar presided over the case, determining that the suit was incompetent from the outset.

Nwoko's attorney, Dr. Mike Nwoko, attempted to amend the original summons but was met with opposition from Okowa's legal team, led by Kehind Ogunwumiju, SAN.

The court found that Nwoko's action did not meet the necessary legal requirements to institute a pre-election suit, as outlined in Section 285(14) of the 1999 Constitution and Section 88(2) of the Electoral Act 2026. The judgment emphasized that the right to institute such actions belongs exclusively to the aspirants and cannot be assigned to an agent or attorney.
