Nwachukwu Sues NDC, INEC Over Imo North Primary Dispute

Isaac Nwachukwu, a senatorial aspirant for the Imo North zone, has initiated legal action against the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal High Court in Owerri, Imo State. The lawsuit, filed on a Wednesday, alleges gross irregularities during the party's primary elections held in June 2023.

Nwachukwu's counsel, C.J. Oguzi, claims that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the NDC, denied him the senatorial ticket despite his contributions of N20 million to the party's development.

The suit seeks several declarations, including the recognition of Nwachukwu as the consensual candidate for the Imo North senatorial zone in the upcoming 2027 general elections. He also requests that the NDC be restrained from fielding any candidates other than himself.

The suit highlights discrepancies in the party's candidate selection process and financial contributions made by Nwachukwu, including a receipt for the N20 million contribution.
