Senegal’s Lions End D’Tigers Dream of Emulating D’Tigress in Angola

Senegal's Lions ended Nigeria's senior men's basketball team, the Tigers, dream of emulating the success of the D'Tigress in Angola. The Tigers lost to Senegal in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Afrobasket Championship in Luanda, Angola, effectively ending their hopes of winning the championship and receiving the rewards that come with it.

Despite an exhilarating opening quarter where Nigeria led, Senegal's Brancou Badio's incredible play led to a 32-point performance, ultimately securing the win for the Lions. Senegal maintained their dominance throughout the game, leading to a 24-point deficit for Nigeria going into the final quarter.

Senegal's victory secured them a spot in the semifinals against Mali, who advanced after a dramatic overtime win against Côte d'Ivoire. Mali's Aliou Diarra's impressive performance of 35 points and 16 rebounds helped his team reach the semifinals for the first time since 1999.
