Senior Civil Servants Reject Violent Picketing in Ilorin

On Monday, senior civil servants from the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) at the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority (LNRBDA) distanced themselves from a violent picketing exercise conducted by the National Union of Agricultural Employees (NUAE) in conjunction with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) at their headquarters in Ilorin. The ASCSN condemned the disruption of official activities, stating that they were not consulted regarding the protest scheduled for May 11.

They affirmed that the actions taken were inconsistent with peaceful labor practices. The ASCSN, represented by Chairman Comrade Olusegun Peter and Secretary Engr. Usman Shaaba, emphasized that the protest violated the rights of other unions and disrupted normal operations, affecting staff and school children.

Reports indicated that several individuals sustained injuries during the incident, including an alleged attack on the LNRBDA unit chairman with a metal object.
