Violence Erupts at Kwara River Basin Amid Protest

Violence broke out at the Kwara River Basin Development Authority as members of the National Union of Agricultural Employees (NUAEE) protested alleged poor worker welfare and high-handed management practices. Engr.

Olushola Georg Olumoroti, the Managing Director, described the situation as a violent attack on what was intended to be a peaceful protest. Three staff members were hospitalized after being severely beaten.

The unrest is linked to disciplinary proceedings involving NUAEE State Chairman Mr. Mudi Olayinka Raji, who allegedly instigated the protest.

Olumoroti, who assumed office in April 2025, indicated that a review of financial records inherited from the previous administration revealed misconduct, leading to recommendations for sanctions against several staff members. Raji denied the allegations against management and claimed that the accusations were attempts to frustrate staff promotions.

The situation escalated with reports of further assaults and a breach of security within the agency, prompting calls for a fresh investigation into the claims of misconduct.
