Lawyer Demands Investigation into Torture of 85-Year-Old

Senior lawyer Adesoy Ezekiel Ogboji has formally requested Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the alleged unlawful arrest and torture of 85-year-old Abubakar Aliyu. The request, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, highlights that Aliyu was arrested on March 24, 2026, without any legal justification.

Ogboji claims that Aliyu, who has served his community honorably, was subjected to severe and degrading treatment during his detention, which has significantly affected his health. The lawyer emphasized that the actions of the police officers involved represent a blatant abuse of power and a violation of Aliyu's fundamental human rights.

Aliyu is currently undergoing treatment for health complications resulting from the alleged mistreatment. The case is pending in the Bwari Division of the High Court, with Ogboji seeking accountability for the actions of the police.
