Senior Police Officers Move To Quit Contributory Pension Scheme, Demand NASS Backing

Senior police officers are seeking to quit the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and are urging the National Assembly to support their decision. In a wireless message dated August 6, 2025, Assistant Police charge Border Patrol Force announced that senior officers had unanimously agreed to opt out of the CPS.

The move comes after pressure from the Nigeria Police Force Pensions Limited (NPF Pensions) for officers to transfer their Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) to the company. The officers argue that the CPS is exploitative and have demanded a legal framework for their total withdrawal from the scheme.

This decision follows a peaceful protest in Abuja, Calabar, and Jalingo led by human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, where retirees decried the exploitative nature of the CPS and the mismanagement of pension funds by police leadership. The senior officers are now focusing their efforts on securing the necessary legal amendments to formally exit the CPS.
