SERAP Files Suit for INEC to Disclose Political Donation Limits

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has initiated legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking an order to compel INEC to disclose its systems for monitoring and enforcing political contribution limits ahead of the 2027 general elections. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2114/2026, calls for INEC to publish any established contribution limits under Section 91 of the Electoral Act 2026 and to reveal measures for ensuring compliance by political parties, candidates, and donors.

SERAP criticized INEC for not responding to its previous inquiries regarding political donation limits and requested the court to mandate the disclosure of financial statements, audited accounts, and election expenditure reports of political parties from 2023 to 2025. The organization emphasized that transparency in political financing is crucial for public scrutiny of the funds influencing electoral processes.
