SERAP Demands INEC Disclose Political Donation Limits

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has made a formal request to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disclose whether it has established limits on political donations in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This Freedom of Information request, dated August 22, 2026, and signed by Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, calls for INEC to publish these limits and make them accessible to political parties, candidates, donors, and the public.

SERAP argues that transparency is essential to prevent undue financial influence on the electoral process. The organization has also asked INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, to reveal the systems and procedures in place for monitoring compliance with political contribution limits.

SERAP expressed concerns over the historical non-disclosure of campaign contributions by political parties and the lack of effective sanctions for non-compliance. The organization warned that if INEC does not provide the requested information within seven days, it will pursue legal action.
