SERAP Sues INEC Over Alleged N55.9bn Misuse of 2019 Election Funds

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has filed a lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Nigeria, accusing them of mismanaging N55.9 billion earmarked for the 2019 general elections. The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is based on findings from the Auditor General's 2025 annual report, which highlighted various financial irregularities, including payments to contractors without proper documentation and inflated purchases.

SERAP is seeking a court order to compel INEC to provide a detailed account of how the funds were spent to ensure transparency and accountability in Nigeria's electoral system.
