SERAP Sues NNPC Over Alleged Missing $49.7 Million and ₦22.3 Billion Oil Revenue

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has taken legal action against the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) over the alleged disappearance of $49.7 million and ₦22.3 billion in oil revenue. The lawsuit, filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/195/2026, was lodged following revelations in the 2022 audit report published by the Auditor General of the Federation on September 9, 2025.

SERAP, represented by its lawyers Oluwakemi Agunbiade and Valentina Adegok, accuses NNPC of failing to properly account for the significant sum of money, which is believed to have been either missing or diverted. The lawsuit seeks to compel NNPC to provide a transparent account of the allegedly mismanaged funds.

The case is set for a hearing, with the date yet to be fixed by the court.
