SERAP Calls for Transparency in ₦200 Trillion NNPCL Scandal

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, to direct the Senate's Public Account Committee to reveal the names and positions of officials allegedly involved in the purported misappropriation of ₦200 trillion at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) from 2017 to 2023. In a letter dated March 21, 2026, signed by SERAP's Deputy Director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organization emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the ongoing investigation, including the dissemination of audit reports and financial records.

SERAP expressed concerns over the lack of reconciled figures and supporting documents, noting that several officials have failed to provide satisfactory explanations. The organization warned of potential legal action if the Senate does not comply with its request within seven days, highlighting the importance of public oversight in managing Nigeria's wealth and preventing political interference.
