SERAP Calls for Probe into ₦2.9bn Misappropriation

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has written to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to direct the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, to investigate the alleged misappropriation of ₦2.9 billion in the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) and the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA). In a letter dated April 11, signed by SERAP's Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadar, the organization claims that NIGCOMSAT failed to account for ₦465 million paid to Gicel Wireless Ltd. without proper authorization from the Ministry of Science and Technology. Additionally, SERAP alleges that NIGCOMSAT made irregular payments totaling ₦3.1 million for staff expenses without due process. The NNRA is also implicated, having reportedly paid ₦4.4 million for training without proper documentation. SERAP demands that measures be taken within seven days of receiving the letter, warning that it may pursue legal action if no response is received.
