Shettima Launches N750 Trillion Capital Market Plan

Vice President Kashim Shettima unveiled the Nigerian Capital Market Master Plan 2.0 at the National Capital Market Conference 2026 in Abuja. This 10-year roadmap aims to expand the capital market from approximately N250 trillion to N750 trillion by 2036, facilitating long-term financing for infrastructure and economic development.
Shettima emphasized the capital market's role in national economic policy, stating its purpose is to support development by funding essential projects. The plan seeks to enhance the bond market for states, increase retail participation through technology and education, and enable sectors like solid minerals and agriculture to raise capital domestically.
Since the Tinubu administration took office in May 2023, the Nigerian Exchange All-Share Index has risen from about 55,000 points to over 260,000, with the value of listed equities increasing from about N30 trillion to nearly N160 trillion. Shettima attributed this growth to various reforms and warned that policy reversals could undermine these gains.
